DevLog #5: The Archivium – March Devlog: Degrees, Ghost Mail & the March of Deadlines

The Archive never sleeps

and neither, apparently, do we.

This month we’re excited (and a little bit dazed) to officially launch Codex 03: The Academic Register, our most ambitious expansion yet. At 250 pages, this Codex gives shape and structure to your life outside the Archive. It's not just about what happens after sunset anymore—your morning classes, club obligations, and academic stress now have gameplay weight of their own.

We’ve bundled this launch with Codex 02: Love Beyond the Veil, which until now was only available to our early-access Patrons. Both are now publicly released, and together they offer two very different sides of Archivium play.

Codex III: The Academic Register

This expansion has been quietly evolving in the background for a while. What started as "maybe we should give the morning section some structure" turned into "what if we built an entire modular academic system that let players choose degrees, complete exams, join fencing teams, and maybe burn out halfway through second year?"

It was… a lot. But a good lot.

This Codex introduces:

  • Full academic schedules and class-based gameplay

  • A wide selection of electives ranging from Theatre as Protest to Ancient Warfare & Battlefield Strategy

  • Four themed campuses, each with unique degrees and vibes

  • Mechanics for research projects, exams, burnout, and club engagement

For those of you who love the dark in Dark Academia but still want the academia, this Codex is for you.

Codex II: Love Beyond the Veil

Originally released just for our Patrons, this mini-adventure was our haunted love letter to ghost stories and romantic regrets.

The core concept was simple: What happens to the Valentine’s mail that never made it?

In this Codex, the answer is: it ends up in a haunted post office pocket dimension, and you get to deliver it.

We wanted this to feel like a tight, modular mystery—something you could drop into your Archivium run without interrupting the bigger narrative, or play as a standalone experience if you just want to solve some ghostly correspondence puzzles. The clock's ticking, and if you run out of time before the mail gets delivered… well, let’s just say you won’t be going back to class.

Looking Back, Looking Ahead

This month was a big one. Between expanding the game’s core mechanics and diving deep into new narrative spaces, we learned a lot about what The Archivium can be. If you’ve been waiting to jump in, now’s the time:

  • Start a new playthrough with academic goals and elective chaos

  • Slot in Love Beyond the Veil as your Valentine’s special (even if it’s late)

  • Or just read through the course catalog and give your Custodian something to truly worry about: group projects

As always, thank you for exploring this strange, shifting university with us. More Codices are coming. The Archive’s influence is only beginning to spread…

Stay curious, stay cautious, and don’t forget to study.
